Format Detail Setting
Constant Bit Rate (CBR) : an encoding method that varies the quality level in order to ensure a consistent bit rate throughout an encoded file. Bit rate calculations are typically made in kilobits per second (kbps).
Variable Bit Rate (VBR) : an encoding method that ensures consistent high audio quality throughout an encoded file by making intelligent bit-allocation decisions during the encoding process.
Variable Bit Rate encoding is a relatively new addition to the MP3 world. Consequently, only a few MP3 players support it properly. RealJukebox, Winamp (2.05 or later), and FreeAmp all play VBR encoded files.
If your MP3 player does not support VBR, contact the company that makes the MP3 player and request an update to a VBR capable MP3 player.
Sample rate : the number of samples of audio carried per second, measured in Hz or kHz (one kHz being 1 000 Hz). For example, 44 100 samples per second can be expressed as either 44 100 Hz.
